OP/ZF/3.9 - Ferry Service Operations
 
Purpose and Scope :

This Procedure describes the process of Ferry Service Operations, which is generally the responsibility of the Field Sub-division. The Ferry service operation is required to be performed very effectively to avoid any disruption in Road communications. The SDE is required to ensure that the operation goes on uninterrupted. To that end, he supervises the ferry service operation and maintenance of the Ferry approaches very frequently, as a routine work activity.

Responsibility :

The SDE-Field is responsible for smooth ferry service operation under his sub-division. He is to ensure that ferry service operation goes on uninterrupted and the approaches on both ends are maintained in such a way that the ferry service operations do not remain suspended at any time.

The SDE, Mechanical sub-division for ferry operation is responsible for operation of the ferry engines. He sees that the repair and maintenance of ferry engines and ferries boats are done in such a way that the ferry operation does not come to a halt, and road communication disrupted.
 
Method :

4.1 DAILY PROGRAMME FOR SUPERVISION OF FERRY SERVICE OPERATION.

The SDE Field is responsible for smooth ferry service operation in his sub-division. To this end, he fixes up an elaborate daily programme for its continuous supervision by his SAEs and Work Assistants. According to this programme the SAEs and Work Assistants carry out the supervision by turn to ensure that the service remains uninterrupted and Road communication is not disrupted.

4.2 INSPECTS FERRY SITE

The SDE inspects ferry sites very frequently to see that the SAEs and Work Assistants attend the ferry sites without any lapse and the ferry service operation goes on uninterrupted. He also sees that the maintenance of both the approach roads are done regularly and effectively to avoid any hindrance to movement of road traffic.

4.3 PROMPT ACTION FOR FERRY ENGINE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE

The SDE takes up the repair and maintenance of ferry engines and boat with the mechanical ferry division promptly to see that it is done by them without loss of time to ensure uninterrupted ferry service operations. He also brings to the notice of his EE any requirement of ferry engine boat repair and maintenance for necessary action from his end.
